Teddy Swims, the very bearded and tattooed singer who struck out in a packed Best New Artist field at the Grammys earlier this year, has had much better luck with a different distinction for the record books.
His inescapable number-one hit "Lose Control", which sounds exactly like if Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You" was instead sung by an American Idol runner-up, is now the first song in the entire history of Billboard's Hot 100 to stay on the chart for 100 weeks.
The previous record-holder was Glass Animals' "Heat Waves", which hung in there for 91 weeks on the Hot 100 between 2021 and 2022. It set the record when it reached 59 weeks, and then lasted for another 32. "Lose Control" is currently showing no signs of wear at number nine this week, so don't expect it to disappear anytime soon.
