Taylor Swift's Vienna 'Eras Tour' shows canceled due to terror plot, 2 arrested

Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated 'The Eras Tour' concerts in Vienna have been canceled following the arrest of two suspects involved in plotting a terrorist attack.

Authorities confirmed the alarming news that forced the cancellation of the three scheduled shows at Ernst Happel Stadium to ensure the safety of all attendees.

Barracuda Music, the concert organizer, issued a statement saying,

"We have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone's safety. All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days. For more information, please visit https://www.oeticket.com/help/updates/."

The announcement comes on the heels of a press conference where Franz Ruf, the director-general for public safety in the Ministry of the Interior, revealed the arrest of a 19-year-old Austrian citizen on Wednesday morning, followed by a second suspect's arrest later that afternoon. According to Ruf, the suspects had radicalized themselves online, and the 19-year-old had pledged allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State in early July.

The suspects had targeted Vienna for their planned attack, with a particular focus on Swift's concerts. Authorities initially planned to increase security measures, expecting to draw 65,000 concertgoers daily, plus an additional 10,000 to 15,000 fans outside the stadium. However, the severity of the threat necessitated the cancellation of the shows.

Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The cancellation has undoubtedly disappointed many fans, but safety remains the top priority. Swift’s 'Eras Tour,' which began on March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, has, of course, been a huge success. The tour includes a concert film, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," released in October 2023, breaking records and earning a Golden Globe nomination.

The tour has been described by Swift as "the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life thus far." Despite the current setback, the tour will continue, concluding in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8.
