As fans eagerly wait for something new from Tame Impala, Kevin Parker has delivered the goods in an unconventional way: partnering with Telepathic Instruments to release Orchid.
Officially announced on November 26th, just days before Black Friday, the device may look like a small synthesizer but is instead so much more, described on Instagram as "an advanced chord-generating hardware synthesizer developed for songwriters, producers, and musicians to expand the possibilities of songwriting and musical exploration."
Breaking down the synthesizer further on Patreon, Telepathic Instruments showed off the set of features within Orchid, which includes five different "Performance" modes (Strum, Slop, Arpeggiator, Pattern, and Harp), multiple synth engines (virtual analog, FM, and reed piano emulation), plus multiple onboard effects to fill out compositions.
Rounded out with a built-in stereo speaker, a rechargeable battery, and USB-C for MIDI, Orchid is a box filled with options, yet is designed to serve as an "ideas machine," as the company's introductory video declared.
Set for release on December 18 with a $549 price tag, Tame Impala fans can keep up with the Orchid release on social media or on Telepathic Instruments' official website.
