Sludge metal supergroup Sun Dont Shine — featuring current and former members of Type O Negative, Down, Crowbar, etc. — have announced the impending release of their debut album Birth to Death, due out next year via Corpse Paint Records.
Additional album details are scarce, but the band dropped a somber new single titled "In The End", with an accompanying music video directed by Corpse Paint Records' Andrew Spaulding.
Check it out below:
“‘In The End’ is a great example of what we want Sun Dont Shine to sound like,” says guitarist Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down). “It’s got dynamics, melody, and a bit of heaviness to it.”
Formerly known as EYE AM, the band features Windstein, Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative), Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig), and Todd Strange (ex-Crowbar, ex-Down).
Spaulding commented further:
“‘In the End’ was one of those melodies that stayed with me from the moment it was written. I found myself humming it constantly. It carried a different weight — slower, more reflective — but the lyrics cut deep in a way that immediately made me think about the people we've lost along the way. For us, that includes giants who shaped this band's very DNA: Peter Steele, Dimebag Darrell, and most recently, Ace Frehley.”
This past June, the sludge upstarts released the four-track extended play Coming Down, showcasing the dual riffing of Windstein and Hickey.
"We like to think, us four guys, that it's not what people think when you've got half of the original Crowbar and half of Type O Negative," Windstein said at the time. "It doesn't sound like either band, so it's its own thing, which I'm very proud of."
