Strongly rumoured Oasis reunion fails to materialise at Leeds Festival – but it still might happen

Rumours of an Oasis reunion are nothing new for fans of the long-dormant Manchester band, but, with the 30th anniversary of their debut album Definitely Maybe fast approaching, word has been going around that this time it really might happen. Even Liam and Noel Gallagher's kids have been rooting for it.

With Liam Gallagher bringing his Definitely Maybe solo tour to the Friday night headline slot at Leeds Festival in the UK, anticipation for an historic onstage moment was riding high – but, in the end, there was no sign of his brother.

Still, with some days left to go until the release of a remastered and expanded version of Definitely Maybe lands in stores, not all fans are ready to put the rumours to bed. During his Leeds Festival set, Gallagher seemed to address the elephant in the room with a cryptic comment made before launching into the song "Half the World Away", on which his brother originally sang lead.

At a show in Cardiff in early June, before the same song, Gallagher told the crowd that Noel was "still playing hard to get." At Leeds, as YorkshireLive reports, he simply said – complete with long pauses – "It is very interesting, innit? It is a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in.”

Some sceptical fans have suggested that it might all just be a marketing stunt to boost sales of the reissue, but we'll find out soon enough. The Gallagher brothers have been at war with each other, publicly at least, since an incident in Paris that caused Noel to quit the band. At the risk of sounding like a code-cracking Swiftie, this coming Wednesday (28 August) will mark exactly 15 years since Oasis went dark...
