The Stone Roses bassist Gary Mounfield, better known as Mani, has died just days after celebrating his 63rd birthday, his brother Greg announced on Facebook.
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother," he wrote. "Gary Mani Mounfield RIP RKID."
Tributes have poured in from across the music world, including from Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown who wrote on X, "REST IN PEACE MANi X," and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher who called Mani his "hero" and said he was in "total shock" at the news.

Born in Crumpsall in 1962, Mani joined Ian Brown, John Squire, and Alan 'Reni' Wren's band in 1987 and remained in the group until their initial breakup in 1996. He then joined Scottish band Primal Scream as their bassist, playing with them for 15 years before rejoining the Stone Roses upon their reunion in 2012.
His brother added that he is now "reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda," who died from cancer two years ago. The couple had twins, born in 2012.
