For Fleetwood Mac fans, Buckingham Nicks is a somewhat mythical project. The 1973 project is the only album created by the iconic duo of Stevie Nicks and Linsey Buckingham and, although it was not a commercial success, is credited with having wooed Mick Fleetwood into inviting the duo to join his band, Fleetwood Mac, a decision that lead to some of the most beloved rock music of the 20th century.
However, for the last five decades, Buckingham Nicks has been out of print. Speculated reasons for this range from its commercial failure, to Nicks' stated distaste towards the cover – which features her naked next to her former romantic partner – to the fact that Nicks and Buckingham have been in and out of favor with each other for basically as long as we've known about them.
Whatever the reason may be, fans can now rejoice that a reissue of Buckingham Nicks is finally being released via Warner Music Group's catalog division, Rhino. The announcement came alongside an official remastered version of the opening track, "Crying in the Night".
Fans began to speculate that the duo was up to something last week when they posted matching cryptic messages on social media. Nicks posted a graphic with the words "And if you go forward..." At the same time, Buckingham posted a similar graphic with the words "I'll meet you there," which together are lyrics to the Buckingham Nicks song, "Frozen Love".

The reissue comes after many years of turbulence for the duo. Their rocky romantic relationship was well-documented on their seminal album, Rumours. In 2018, Fleetwood Mac fired Lindsey Buckingham, who then sued the band for breach of contract, blaming Nicks in the process. After the case was settled, fans who were hoping for a reunion were then devastated by the passing of Fleetwood Mac keyboardist and vocalist Christine McVie. “There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way," Nicks said after the death of her collaborator and dear friend. "Without her, it just couldn’t work.”
This Buckingham Nicks reissue is thus a welcomed development for fans who want to find new reasons to celebrate the music these two songwriters have given the world.
While the new edition won't feature any new music, it will include liner notes that include interviews with both Buckingham and Nicks. A snippet of this was shared to the press, in which Nicks states, "[We] knew what we had as a duo, two songwriters that sang really well together. And it was a very natural thing, from the beginning." Buckingham goes on to say about the reissue: "It stands up in a way you hope it would."
The official reissue of Buckingham Nicks will be released on all platforms on September 19.
