Spotify and other streaming services are now airing ICE recruitment ads

Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek recently stepped down amid a slew of controversy, though it was more a symbolic gesture than a meaningful shake-up. The company has faced backlash over the flood of AI-generated music on the platform, low pay for artists, and Ek’s investment in military drones.

Now, desperate to win back public favor, Spotify seems to have found a winning strategy: airing recruitment ads for ICE across its streaming service.

According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration has funneled $30 billion into hiring at least 10,000 additional deportation officers by the end of the year — and it seems the plan is already taking shape. Spotify users have begun reporting ICE recruitment ads with a deep, dystopian voice commanding them to “fulfill their mission.”

Of course, Spotify isn’t the only multi-billion-dollar corporation cashing the government’s checks. YouTube, Pandora, HBO Max, and Amazon Music have all run similar ads. Many of these spots dangle hefty signing bonuses for new recruits, while others feature figures like South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem referring to immigrants as “illegal aliens” and warning them not to enter the country.

If you’ve spent any time on X lately, chances are you’ve seen ICE ads painting America as under siege — and you, the hero, as the only one who can stop it. Now, the campaign has moved to the airwaves, with no end in sight.
