Softcult, the Ontario grungy shoegaze duo, have announced their debut full-length When a Flower Doesn’t Grow, out January 30 via Easy Records.

Alongside the album news, they’ve shared the lead single and video “16/25”, a track that takes aim at predatory geezers who target young girls – in a similar fashion to that movie Hard Candy, remember that one? Check out the video:

The album title pulls from a quote by Dutch author Den Heijer:

“when a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”

For frontwoman Mercedes, that “environment” meant working through trauma, with the record emerging from a fully self-produced and self-recorded process.
