The Paris Summer Olympics kick off this weekend, with the opening ceremony set for tomorrow, July 26. American rapper/actor/entrepreneur Snoop Dogg will be one of the final torch bearers, completing the Olympic torch's journey before lighting the Olympic flame to commence the events.
French newspaper Le Parisien unveiled that the 52-year-old Snoop Dogg will join French actress Laetitia Casta, French rapper MC Solaar, and Ukrainian retired pole-vaulter Sergey Bubka in carrying the torch in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis. A total of 11,000 bearers took almost three months to transport the torch through 62 French territories.
Snopp will not only be used as a torch bearer during the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics, but we will also play the role of prime-time NBC correspondent during the games.
When asked about the opportunity to be a part of the torch-carrying route and opening ceremonies Snoop shared:
This is my own version of it. I don’t want to get too emotional, but I know that this is special.
I’m going to show you why they made me the man to do it. I’m going to put all of my resources and energy around it with peace, love and harmony. That’s what the Olympics is all about. I feel like that’s why they chose me. That’s what I represent.
