NBC has announced the official Fall lineup for Saturday Night Live’s 50th season. In a post to Instagram this Wednesday (September 18th), the first five hosts and their respective musical guests were unveiled.
Three-time Emmy Award-winner Jean Smart (of Hacks) will kick off hosting duties on September 28th, with musical guest Jelly Roll bringing his first-ever performance to the long-running sketch comedy series. On October 5th, comedian Nate Bargatze will host for the second time, while Coldplay makes their eighth appearance at Studio 8H.
Ariana Grande is slated to host Episode 3 on October 12th - though she isn’t scheduled to perform; that duty falls to Stevie Nicks, who will return to SNL’s stage for the first time since 1987. Grande’s appearance comes just over one month before the release of the movie adaptation of Wicked, hitting theaters this November 22nd.
In a similarly theatrical vein, Episode 4 will see the return of Michael Keaton (starring in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice) with Billie Eilish performing once again - her third SNL appearance, having also hosted in December 2021.
Last but not least, November 2nd will see former SNL writer John Mulaney return for the sixth time (having more than earned his spot in the Five Timers Club). Chappell Roan will cap off the first part of the season, with more announcements to come.
The 5oth season of SNL is already bringing plenty of entertainment and even more changes to the show's makeup. Former cast member Maya Rudolph is confirmed to return, reprising her role as Vice President Kamala Harris, just in time for election season. Joining her and the rest of the troupe will be three newcomers in Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, & Jane Wickline.
SNL has a long history with making music news (from guitar smashing to other legendary wrecks) so check out the show's official Instagram for more updates and keep an eye out here on TND for any big news on the music front.
