Slow Cooked – the cello punk outfit spearheaded by musician/songwriter Louie Barby – has shared double single "Vest Poets" / "Gammon", released on Plum Cuts.
Watch the Fast & Furious-inspired video, directed by Barby and Corey Rid, for "Vest Poets" below:
Barby describes "Vest Poets" as "a ballad wrapped up within a punk song," going on to say:
"Surrounded on all sides by the sickly sincerity of online life coaches and artists, you boil with hatred and frustration until you realise you’re becoming the very thing you love to hate."
"Gammon" likewise aims its crosshairs at performative online persona's and influencer culture:
"Though the messages are ones you hold dear, confusion and bitterness excludes from you and your skin turns gammon pink in allergy to weaponization of sincerity by online influencers."
Slow Cooked originally hail from Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, but are now a mainstay within the South London music scene. The project, characterized by Barby's distinct cello playing, has performed with the likes of King Krule, Black Country New Road, Nourished by Time and Katy J Pearson as well as collaborations with Goat Girl, heka, and Skydaddy.
Both Slow Cooked singles are produced by Adele Philips, one third of Miss Tiny alongside Dan Carey and Warmduscher's Benjamin Romans-Hopcraft. Philips has previously collaborated with Fontaines DC's Grian Chatten, Royel Otis and Sailor Honeymoon.
Slow Cooked are set to play a show the 29th of July at Servant’s Jazz Quarters in London.
