Skrillex goes postmodern on his new 34-song album

EDM legend Skrillex has surprise released a new album titled F*ck U Skrillex You Think Ur Andy Warhol But Ur Not!! <3. While only 46 minutes long, the continuous mix spans over 34 songs of original material, VIP remixes, former leaks, and unreleased Ultra set intros.

The project features Jónsi of Sigur Rós, Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs, Virtual Riot, Drain Gang producer Whitearmor, mixtape-style hosting by DJ Smokey, and countless others.

Around the time when he announced his return to Ultra Music Festival, Skrillex announced a secret project called "FUS" with an emailing list. Over the following months, the producer sent demos and potential meme edits to unsuspecting fans eager for the next drop. In what could have been the greatest April Fools gag of all time, Skrillex released F*ck You Skrillex at midnight on April 1 via a Dropbox link with an audio file titled "FUS - FULL ALBUM" – predictably, the link crashed ten minutes after launch. The audio file hosts roughly 2000 comments of gobsmacked praise the morning of the release.

The surprise drop shook many EDM figureheads. Producer and Skrillex collaborator Kill the Noise described FUS as "postmodern Skrillex," due to it somehow sounding fresh in a post-Skrillex producing world. In another tweet, album collaborator Dylan Brady humors, "I heard that snare [on "BOOSTER'] took him two years to make."

Most of FUS's jokes can be heard through DJ Smokey's characteristic rasp, growling quotables like "Shadow wizard Skrillex gang, we love casting dubstep" and "DJ Smokey recommends you listen to this album from start to finish." The record is a culmination of the last 15 years of Skrillex, new and old, simultaneously ironic and sincere.

FUS will also be Skrillex's final project under Atlantic Records. His contract with Atlantic began with his Weekends!!! EP through Atlantic's Big Beat subsidiary. Most of his material would be released through Atlantic subsidiaries or his own OWSLA imprint over the subsequent 15 years.

The album makes allusions to a potential feud he has with ownership and Atlantic. The lyrics on "BIGGY BAP" are particularly incendiary: "It might be illegal to hear this sh*t ... I have Skrillex trapped in my basement / Play this at full volume or I'll put him in the hole / Free Sonny Moore" followed by "this beat drop has been siezed by Atlantic records and has been replaced with silence."
