Texan singer/songwriter Alex Montenegro, aka Skirts, has released her first new track since breaking through with her 2021 album Great Big Wild Oak. Out today via Double Double Whammy, "Run" is pretty far removed from the hushed bedroom-pop of Montenegro's earliest recordings. “I’ve always liked to create depth and texture by using cool production," she explains in a press release. "I feel a lot of growth in our sound and I’m very excited to have something new out in the world.”
Partly inspired by the wild horses she was always trying to spot running free during a tour of the West Coast in 2022, Montenegro says "Run" is "the second to last song I wrote for the new album we've been working on," adding:
"I sort of swung into a place where I could only write songs on piano after COVID, and this is a result of that. Joshua Luttrull wrote the guitar part, Daniel Bryson played the drums, and Bennet Littlejohn did the bass, all of which contributed to what it is now!"
