Fresh off of an in-demand European your, Alec Duckart, aka Searows, has shared details of a new EP, flush, dropping 22 November via Last Recordings on Earth.
The five-track release, co-produced with Jonathan Pearce of The Beths, builds upon short pieces that the Portland, OR-based singer/songwriter had shared to TikTok in the past but never realised as complete songs. Recent single “martingale”, for instance, was built from two different songs that Duckart eventually realized belonged together as one.
Writing in the press release for his new single “toothache”, out today, Duckart explains that the song is about putting an end to people-pleasing behaviors, saying:
“For a lot of my life I have put far too much effort into being nice and accommodating in situations where I didn’t need to be. I think this song is about learning how to let go of the need to make other people feel comfortable at the cost of your own dignity and personhood.”
Posting on Instagram, Duckart added:
"this song is kind of nerve wracking to release because it doesn’t really sound like anything else I’ve released before or really plan on releasing in the future. But I made it and it was fun so I’m releasing it and I hope u think it’s fun too :) so here is an extremely rare fun searows song :) cherish it cause who knows if it will ever happen again! Love ya"
