Opening the 2026 Juno Awards, Rush delivered their first live performance in more than 11 years, and their first since the 2020 loss of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.
What stood onstage was both familiar and strikingly new: Geddy Lee still anchoring everything with that unmistakable voice and bass tone (the former of which sounds notably stronger than it did on the last tour all those years ago); Alex Lifeson carving space with his guitar; joined by drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold.
Together, they tore into “Finding My Way”, the lead track from their 1974 debut, raw, scrappy, and suddenly reborn in a very different era.
According to SetList.fm, this was the first time they’d played the song in full since 1976, back when Rush was still figuring out what it could be. That debut record, of course, was the lone outlier in their catalog to feature John Rutsey on drums before Peart stepped in and helped redefine the band’s identity.
For longtime fans, the moment carried a heavy emotional undertow. Rush’s last show with Peart, Lee, and Lifeson together took place on August 1, 2015, in Los Angeles, closing out the R40 tour, a victory lap that felt, even then, like a goodbye. Five years later, Peart’s death after a three-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer seemed to close the book for good.
Lifeson himself said as much in the aftermath: "There’s no way Rush will ever exist again, because Neil’s not here to be a part of it," he reflected. "That’s not to say that we can’t do other things, and we can’t do things that benefit our communities and all of that."
And yet, time has a way of reshaping absolutes.
In October 2025, Lee and Lifeson announced the Fifty Something tour, a modest concept at first that quickly snowballed into a sprawling 86-date world run. It wasn’t framed as a resurrection so much as a tribute, a way to revisit a catalog that had quietly become generational scripture for a certain kind of listener.
“It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of Rush alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil. A lifetime’s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage," they shared.
"And so, after all that has gone down since that last show, Alex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we fucking miss it, and that it’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of Rush music."
That feeling hung in the air at the Junos. This wasn’t about replacing Neil Peart. It couldn’t be. It was about honoring the music they built together, and maybe, finally, finding a way forward inside it.
The Fifty Something tour kicks off June 7 in Los Angeles. Full tour dates below:
