Cue up the 1,001st "hope I die before I get old" joke! This year The Who embarked on what they called their final tour, had a weird shakeup with their longtime now-ex drummer Zak Starkey (son of Ringo Starr, who's also sat behind the kit for Oasis), and ultimately completely their life missions several times over. But until now, Roger Daltrey had never been knighted like peers Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John. Today that changed and at the age of 81, you're looking at a new man: Sir Roger Daltrey.
Prince William knighted him at Windsor Castle for his achievements and his work with the Teenage Cancer Trust. His wife waited to surprise him with the news of his knighting until said tour ended. "It is an incredible honor," Daltrey said in a press statement, "I was born in the Second World War and grew up in the streets in London, for a kid like me, achieving this, it’s a dream."
If you missed the Who's farewell stint, hopefully you caught Patti Smith touring the 50th anniversary of her landmark debut Horses. She ended the final stop in Philly weeks ago with her raucous, profane cover of "My Generation," in which she sneers "I don't need their fuckin' shit," and frankly, it blows the original away.
