Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced, including Outkast & Soundgarden

Seven new acts have been added to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as announced on (what else?) American Idol this Sunday evening, April 27th.

Outkast are in, marking six years in a row that at least one rap act has been honored. Three solo artists have the nod, too: Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, and Cyndi Lauper. Rounding out the list are some bonafide rock acts: Bad Company, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.

The Hall has other induction categories as well – the Musical Influence Award, Musical Excellence Award, and Ahmet Ertegun Award (the latter of which is named after the co-founder of Atlantic Records). Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon swept the Musical Influences, while the Musical Excellences went out to soul producer Thom Bell, plus two studio musicians, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye (of Wrecking Crew fame). The Ertegun title went to Lenny Waronker, a label executive and producer.

Despite winning the fan vote, Phish did not get into the Hall this year. For the stoner jam enthusiasts among you, there's always 2026! Other finalists that did not make the cut include Oasis, The Black Crowes, and Mariah Carey.

The ceremony is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on November 8th. See the full list of inductees below.
