RIP Tucker Zimmerman

Dan Weiss

American folksinger Tucker Zimmerman, who famously recruited Big Thief as his backing band on 2024's critically acclaimed Dance of Love, died in a house fire at his Belgian home on the morning of Saturday, January 17th, along with his wife and musical collaborator Marie-Claire Lambert. He was 84 and they were married for over 50 years.

The singer, born Brian Tucker Zimmerman, began learning violin at age four and went on to collaborate with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Zimmerman's 1968 debut album, Ten Songs, was produced with David Bowie's right-hand man Tony Visconti and Bowie himself named it one of his ten favorite albums.

He went on to make 16 albums and half a dozen films, and just over a year ago the cult artist had begun receiving renewed attention again thanks to his Big Thief collaboration at the age of 83.
