Rick Ross briefly spent last week behind bars following his arrest on a battery charge after a woman told the cops he hit her, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.
Ross, whose government name is William Roberts II, surrendered at the Miami Beach Police Station Thursday, two days after the woman filed a police report, and was released later that day on a $5,000 bond.
Charged with battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, he pleaded not guilty, according to court records. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for October 22.
After his release from a Miami-Dade County jail, Ross, 50, immediately began to proclaim his innocence.
"I am totally innocent of these fabricated allegations made against me," Ross told reporters outside, later repeating the same "fabricated allegations" phrase in an Instagram Live video shared online.
According to an arrest report via ABC News, a woman told detectives that Ross accused her of cheating on him and hit her multiple times on August 28 at their shared home in Miami.
She said Ross choked her with the collar of her shirt and slammed her into a wall, and she was able to eventually leave before returning later, after Ross left, to collect her belongings, according to the arrest report.
Ross's attorney said his client was wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend who may have ulterior motives.
"The ex did not even file a police report until a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place," defense attorney Steve Sadow said in a statement. "Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges. He respectfully requests that his friends, fans and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course."
This is not the first time Ross has been accused of violence, as he pled no contest to aggravated assault in 2017 after he was accused of forcing a man into a guesthouse and beating him with a handgun in Atlanta, according to Georgia court records.
