Chicago indie rock group Ratboys announced their sixth album Singin' to an Empty Chair, out February 6th. Singin' to an Empty Chair is the band's first for their new label New West Records, and their second album produced by indie rock stalwart Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie, Pinegrove, The Decemberists).
Ratboys also released a new single called "Anywhere", along with an accompanying music video. Check out the video below:
According to vocalist/guitarist Julia Steiner, Singin' to an Empty Chair documents her "experience being estranged from a close loved one." The album's goal is
"to update this person on what's been going on in my life and try to bridge that impasse," she says. The band wrote the album at a 75-acre plot of land in Wisconsin's Driftless Area, and they recorded it in their home city of Chicago.
Singin' to an Empty Chair also includes "Light Night Mountains All That", which came out in September. It's the band's first record since 2023's breakthrough The Window.
Ratboys have a string of upcoming tour dates in the UK and Europe in November. Following the release of Singin' to an Empty Chair in February, the band will go on tour across North America in support of the new record with Florry, villagerr, and Free Range opening.
