Meek Mill lambasts DJ Akademiks: "block this man he’s grooming children"

Hip hop journalist and streamer Livingston "DJ Akademiks" Allen has been under fire regarding a clip of him making indecent sexual comments to a minor streamer.

Ak has become a controversial figure in the rap landscape, be it his drama with Migos at the BET Awards or his extremely vocal support for Drake during his beef with Kendrick Lamar, he has marketed himself as the rap world's biggest troll.

On January 23, Akademiks was on a Discord call with 15-year-old streamer NourGXD, a Discord moderator for Twitch star Plaqueboymax. The conversation was streamed over a game of Fortnite on Twitch, where Ak made several sexual comments towards the young streamer, often using Max as a talking point. One remark has him asking the minor if he would have sex with Max's adult sister. Nour says he wouldn't, "She's above 18... that's grooming." Akademiks responds with "what that mean?"

Ak continues to prod throughout the stream. He later asks the minor for his address to send strippers to his house. Nour expresses his discomfort, saying "that's weird" about his sexual comments, alluding to the older women "catching a case." Akademiks tries to downplay it: "you know all the rappers lost their virginity to old women, right?"

The clips of Akademiks from this small Twitch channel spread quickly on the Twitterverse, with many drawing similarities between him and Drake's history of grooming allegations (and Drake being a rapper Ak famously idolizes). The journalist went to the defense, arguing that Plaqueboymax should get the same backlash for having an Onlyfans model speak with the then 14-year-old. Akademiks took to his own Twitch to downplay the allegations, calling it 'lil bro' talk, trolling, and brushing off his detractors as jaded Kendrick fans. "How do we cancel Ak?’ I’m still the biggest, pause. You can’t cancel what you didn’t build."

Ak assumed these claims would subside, but the story continued to get more attention from high-profile people in the streaming and rap space. In an interview with streamer ImDontai, Nour elaborates on how he got in contact with Ak and reveals that Ak was aware that he was live on Twitch, "so imagine what happens when nobody's live," says the 15-year-old. Nour also notes that Tory Lanez's alleged manager WrittenByRay – the one who invited the streamer to play Fortnite – also made sexual comments at him.

With Akademiks being a controversial figure in the hip-hop community, many rappers took to social media to express their disgust. Freddie Gibbs, who has a history with the streamer, simlpy Tweeted "@Akademiks b***h."

Meek Mill posted a screenshot of him blocking the journalist, saying:

"If your a parent go get ya kids phone and block this man he’s grooming children with a very large platform that 'kids' like… also attempts to ruin black families and black success daily 'VILLAN IN THE VILLAGE.'"

Mill later points out that Akademiks has a history of "spreading false information on black culture."

There were also whispers that Playboi Carti had cut ties and blocked Ak following the recent allegations. However, those rumors were proven false once Ak posted receipts of the two still in contact. However, it was evident that Akademiks was taking a severe PR hit with these recent allegations. After seeing all the backlash, Akademiks changed his tone and addressed over the phone to Max:

"I am wrong. I will be better. This is a teachable moment."

Akademiks has a history of troublesome views around the discussion of minors and sexual acts. An old audio sorce from 2013 has Ak talk about his sketchy perspective on age: "I don't care if she 17, I don't care if she 17 and a half, I don't care if she just turned 17, she gon' get this d*ck." He later announced that he was misunderstood and that he meant strictly adult college students, but his history after that near-decade-old clip proves otherwise.
