Rapper Mystikal has officially pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in connection with his 2022 arrest, court records show.

The 55-year-old artist, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, entered the plea on March 17 during a hearing at Ascension Parish Court in Louisiana. Originally, Tyler was hit with a slew of charges, 10 in total, including first-degree rape, which in Louisiana can carry a life sentence. By pleading guilty to third-degree rape, he now faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars, with court records noting a potential sentence of up to 20 years.
The charges stem from an incident on July 30, 2022, when a woman sought treatment at an emergency room and accused Tyler of rape and battery, according to the Ascension Parish District Attorney’s Office. Beyond the rape allegations, Tyler was also facing multiple other charges, including battery and false imprisonment.
During the March 17 hearing, prosecutors dropped the nine additional charges by filing legal notices called nolle prosequi, signaling they will no longer pursue them.
This marks a significant turn in a case that had captured headlines, showing the legal consequences for a once high-profile rapper whose career has been overshadowed by these serious allegations.
