D’Angelo, the legendary R&B and neo-soul singer, has reportedly passed away at the age of 51, according to author and activist Marc Lamont Hill, who shared the news this morning on X:

“My sources tell me that D’Angelo has passed. Wow. I have no words. May he rest in perfect peace”

Tributes have already begun pouring in from across the music world, with artists including The Alchemist and DJ Premier expressing their condolences online.

D’Angelo rose to fame in the mid-1990s with his groundbreaking debut album Brown Sugar, which helped define the neo-soul movement. His 2000 follow-up, Voodoo, cemented his status as one of the most influential voices in modern R&B, known for his silky vocals, timeless grooves, and boundary-pushing artistry.

No official cause of death has been announced, and the story is still developing.

D'Angelo's last record was 2014's Black Messiah, credited to D'Angelo and the Vanguard.
