Ahead of tomorrow's release of their debut album CLASSY HITS VOL.2, East London band WIDGET have shared a third and final single, "WHAT IF PHONES BUT TOO MUCH," showing a different side to the band with dystopian synth work that calls to mind the likes of John Maus.
"WHAT IF PHONES BUT TOO MUCH" follows previous singles "DOGS DONT LIE" and "CHAMOIS LEATHER." Watch the video, created using remixed footage from John Witney's 1968 film Experiments in Modern Graphics, below:
If you're not already familiar with WIDGET, it might interest you to know that it includes members of Big Joanie, all cats are beautiful, and Junodef, plus Iranian-Irish multi-instrumentalist Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani. They released their first EP back in September 2024 on their own Peach Records.
The band has this to say about the track:
"it's a song about not accepting the lot you've been given, about pushing up at the glass ceiling and smashing it wide open on your way out. fulfilling the dream we've definitely all had where everyone's face is danny dyer, and saying "god no this is absolutely not what i want from life please and thank you"."
Oh, and if you're not British and wondering who the hell Danny Dyer is, you're welcome.
What do you think?
