California rock band Queens of the Stone Age have a fresh live album coming out on June 5th. The kicker? Josh Homme and his bandmates recorded it in the Catacombs of Paris. Fittingly, it's called Alive in the Catacombs.
A recent social media post by the band confirms that the set was carefully planned around the unique location:
"Every aesthetic decision, every choice of song, every configuration of instruments...absolutely everything was planned and played with deference to the Catacombs – from the acoustics and ambient sounds – dripping water, echoes and natural resonance – to the darkly atmospheric lighting tones that enhance the music."
Check out the trailer below:
The set, filmed and recorded in July of last year, spans Queens of the Stone Age's entire catalog, and the group play alongside a three-piece string section. You can pre-order the film here; behind-the-scenes footage will be available to those who order by June 7th.
By the way, if you're itching to see the band in the flesh, the Queens have a string of U.S. dates coming up, and you can buy a ticket or two here. In light of this Catacombs news, fingers crossed that QOTSA will cut the label red tape that's keeping their legendary salt mine performance from seeing the light of day...
