Primus drummer Tim Alexander leaves band

Funk/prog/rock/metal legends Primus announced that longtime drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander is ceasing his performing with the band. The news came from Alexander on October 17th and was announced by the band on their social media platforms on the 29th.

In Alexander's own words, the percussionist has "lost has passion for playing," according to the social media post made by the band.

The news arrives on the heels of Primus touring with Tool singer Maynard James Keenan's projects, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle, throughout the year. Primus were part of the "Sessanta" tour, celebrating Keenan's 60th birthday. The tour has more dates in the near future, and Primus have announced that they will stay on and conduct a search for "the greatest drummer on earth."

Furthermore, the band will play their New Year's show, with members of Les Claypool's bands Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade.

Tool invited Primus to play at their upcoming "Tool In the Sand" festival in the Dominican Republic, and the band will remain on the bill, with none other than Tool drummer Danny Carey taking the drum stool. It's not the first time he's subbed in; in 2014, Carey played with Primus as Alexander was recovering from surgery.
