Primal Scream share cautionary new single "Deep Dark Waters"

Scottish rock band Primal Scream have shared new single "Deep Dark Waters" as a second preview track from their 12th album Come Ahead, which lands on 8 November via BMG.

Similarly to last month's "Love Insurrection", "Deep Dark Waters" recognizes that the world is hurtling towards an ugly fate, and that there is still some hope of walking it back. Writing in a press release, frontman Bobby Gillespie says the track was influenced by the writings of Italian philosopher and activist Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi, and "contains a warning from history: 'Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it'."

Come Ahead is the first Primal Scream album since 2016's Chaosmosis, and the first to not feature keyboardist Martin Duffy, who died after falling at his home two years ago. The album cover features an image of Gillespie's late father, whose social justice activism is reflected in the album's themes of class and staring into the face of "the worst side of human nature."

The video for "Deep Dark Waters" reunites Gillespie with filmmaker Douglas Hart, who once played drums for Gillespie's former band The Jesus & Mary Chain, and has been an important part of Primal Scream's visuals since 1991.
