Today Alaska-bred and Portland-based indie outfit Portugal. The Man has released "Angoon", the latest teaser from upcoming album SHISH, which arrives November 7 via KNIK, the band’s imprint on Thirty Tigers.

The song is a critique of American politics and politicians thieving indigenous land, and the oppression that creating borders brings to both human lives and nature. In the lyrics, songwriter John Gourley reflects on the list of objects his father would take into the woods on a six-foot toboggan — some grape jelly, a tarp, and a hatchet.

SHISH depicts some revelations for Gourley, resulting in some of his most candid songwriting, about being raised in Alaska, and specifically the times hunting-and-gathering with his father. And the act of raising a kid himself in fatherhood – his daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder four years ago. Since announcing the album, Portugal. The Man released the singles "Denali", "Tanana", and "Mush".
