Porridge Radio share "A Hole In The Ground" off of new album Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, out October 18th via Secretly Canadian.
Where the previous single "Sick Of The Blues" has the band's main songwriter Dana Margolin seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, "A Hole In The Ground" finds us right in the middle of the heartbreak, as Margolin's voice breaks with unremitting sorrow and ache.
Porridge Radio recorded a live rendition of the track with some haunting shadow-induced mime visuals. It was part of a special sold out audiovisual performance at Centre Pompidou in Paris, co-created with Margolin's sister Ella and Ellie Wintour. Watch and listen below:
Margolin has the following to say about "A Hole In The Ground":
“This is a song about not knowing, being trapped in a haunted fairytale or a horrible nightmare and running and running and predicting horrible futures that come true and self-fulfill. It's a gentle lullaby but it's also a folk tale with a tragic ending. This is a song about knowing what you don’t know yet. Seeing the future by guessing, being right.”
Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me is an emotionally arresting record pretty much recorded as a live band, with Margolin wrestling with burnout, the music industry, heartbreak, and her own increasing immersion in her craft as an artist. Produced by Dom Monks, longtime engineer for Big Thief and Laura Marling, Clouds was recorded in Frome at the beginning of 2024 in an environment where Margolin could fully express herself.
