Following last Friday's onstage altercation between Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro, the band have understandably decided to "take some time away as a group," canceling all remaining dates on their current US tour.
Three separate statements were released over the course of Monday. The first, appearing on the Jane's Addiction Instagram page, did not provide much in the way of specifics about what's been going on behind the scenes. The second, shared to Dave Navarro's Instagram and co-signed by bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins, was more personal, showing compassion for Farrell's evident instability while still drawing a firm line under the current incarnation of the band, saying:
"Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current U.S. tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs."
It's a statement that many fans had been anticipating following Navarro's previous post showing him holding a Jane's Addiction branded guitar and captioned simply "Goodnight."
Later in the day, Farrell issued his own statement and apology, writing on Instagram stories:
"This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday's show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation."
According to recent comments by Navarro there had been plans to release more new Jane's Addiction material following July's "Imminent Redemption", but it's anyone's guess now when, or if, those recordings will be released.
