Paul McCartney announces 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane', first solo album in five years

Paul McCartney has announced a new solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. The record marks his first solo release in over five years, and 18th overall, and is set arrive on May 29, via MPL/Capitol Records. The project is described as his most introspective solo LP to date, revisiting his childhood in post-war Liverpool and the early days before global fame.

Alongside the announcement, McCartney has shared the new single “Days We Left Behind”, a stripped-back track that captures the emotional and reflective core of the album.

You can watch the official lyric video for the song here:

The album finds McCartney in highly vulnerable space, writing candidly about his upbringing, family life, and early experiences with George Harrison and John Lennon long before the rise of Beatlemania. Rather than mythologizing those years, he presents them candidly as lived memories.

“Days We Left Behind” serves as a centerpiece for the album, with its title lyric inspiring the name The Boys of Dungeon Lane. Speaking on the track, McCartney says:

“This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”

The album also includes new love songs alongside its nostalgic themes, blending what’s described as “Wings-style rock, Beatles-style harmonies, and McCartney-style grooves.” Across the project, McCartney plays the majority of instruments, echoing the approach to his McCartney trilogy.

McCartney currently also has two dates lined up at LA's Fonda Theatre. Check out those below.
