Patty Griffin has announced details of her first studio album in more than 6 years. Dropping on July 25 via PGM Recordings/Thirty Tigers, Crown of Roses is introduced by tone-setting lead single "Back at the Start", which opens the eight-song LP.
Written during the pandemic, the song was originally left on the scrapheap for the record before being reclaimed by Griffin and her collaborators. "Back at the Start" explores the stories that we tell ourselves and when it's helpful to let them go.
"I came back to the song because I like that first line," says Griffin, referring to the lyric "There's secrets I don't tell ever to myself / I just keep moving," adding: “Part of it is about getting on with it, but part is also about staying stuck and going through the motions. It's really a constant thing to try to be alive while you're alive.”
