Ólöf Arnalds announces new album 'Spíra', shares first single

Icelandic singer/songwriter Ólöf Arnalds has announced a brand new record. Spíra, her long-awaited follow-up to 2014's Palme, is out December 5 via Bella Union. It was produced by Skúli Sverrisson (Laurie Anderson, Blonde Redhead), and features him and Davíð Þór Jónsson contributing bass, piano, and guitar.

Arnalds has released the first single from the project, "Tár í morgunsárið", which you can check out below:

The new song was inspired by "the gaping hole left in her stomach when she renounced Catholicism as a teenager," according to a press release.

The album title translates to "sprout," and the album is exclusively sung in Icelandic, unlike her recent projects that features songs also in English.

Spíra is out Dec 5. Pre-order here. Full tracklist:

1. Heimurinn núna
2. Von um mildi
3. Stein fyrir stein
4. Spíra
5. Vorkoma
6. Tár í morgunsárið
7. Úfinn sjór
8. Afl þitt og hús
9. Lifandi
