It's been 25 years since pop quartet Nine Days released their iconic smash "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)", which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was practically inescapable during the summer of 2000, and, like most music Millennials were raised on, it's experiencing a resurgence, thanks in part to inclusion in the 2022 Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Now, to celebrate the quarter-century birthday of a song that has never left our collective consciousness, Nine Days will head to Australia for their first-ever performances there this November. The New York-based band will perform three shows along Australia's East Coast, with dates confirmed for Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Having never performed on the continent, frontman John Hampson enthusiastically states:

“We have been waiting 25 years for this opportunity! Over the years, fans from Australia have reached out to us wanting to know when we were going to make it there to play some shows. Well, now we can finally give them an answer – this November!”

Considered a one hit wonder, Nine Days have released eight albums since their formation in 1994, including their major label debut, The Madding Crowd, in 2000. The album peaked at No. 67 on the Billboard Top 200 and included the aforementioend, double platinum lead single.

"If it all ends next week, at least I'll be able to get my truck fixed up or get a new one. But if nothing, at least we accomplished this," Hampson said at the time.

Hampson, who now works as a high school English teacher, recorded multiple versions of "Story of a Girl" to be used in Everything Everywhere All At Once, which also featured some of the lyrics as part of the movie's dialogue.

The song has also been featured in Shrinking, the Apple TV+ series starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel as mental health therapists.

"It was time for this song to come back," said Mark Fried, CEO of Mojo Music and Media, the indie publishing company responsible for "Story of a Girl" being in Shrinking.
