Nicki Minaj sued for assault by former tour employee

Rapper Nicki Minaj has been sued by a former tour manager for assault, battery and “intentional infliction of emotional distress."

The suit was filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court by Brandon Garrett, who claims Minaj hit him multiple times during a confrontation backstage at Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit following her performance there for the Pink Friday 2 tour.

Minaj's lawyer, Judd Burstein, denied the allegations on her behalf in a statement made in the wake of TMZ's report:

“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations. However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor.”

The alleged assault happened during a meeting between Minaj and eight members of her staff in her dressing room. Minaj's main complaint surrounded "not knowing what [her employees] are supposed to do, and who reports to who."

When Garrett and another employee explained their duties, Minaj was furious upon learning the other employee was tasked with picking up her prescriptions. Per the complaint, she yelled at Garrett, saying: "Are you fucking crazy having him pick up my prescription?” and “If my husband was here, he would knock out your fucking teeth.” She continued by threatening Garrett, saying, “You just fucked up your whole life and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.”

Minaj began to yell at the other employee, asking for specific details on which prescriptions were picked up and when, and after failing to find the information on his phone, she continued to yell at him. Per the report, “At this point, [Minaj] open-handedly struck [Garrett] on the right side of his face, causing his head to swing backwards as his hat flew off his head.” The report also notes that Minaj allegedly struck Garrett on right wrist.

Following this incident, Garrett was left behind in Detroit while the rest of the crew continued on the tour.
