Nick Cave to be celebrated with honorary doctorate from Royal College of Art

Nick Cave, Australian singer, songwriter, author, and frontman of The Bad Seeds, is to be honored September 23 with an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. Cave is the guest of honor at the university’s 2025 convocation ceremony, where he will be granted the honorary degree before the graduating class at the Royal Festival Hall.

This will be Cave’s fourth honorary degree, having been honored as a Doctor of Laws in 2008 by Monash University, the second oldest university in Australia; another Doctor of Laws in 2010, from University of Dundee in Scotland; and a Doctor of Letters in 2012 from the University of Brighton. He was also previously inducted as a 2022 Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

The Royal College of Art is a prestigious, postgraduate art university with four campuses across the UK. Established as the Government School of Design in 1837, it has often ranked first in numerous studies judging art programs across the world, and has numerous notable alumni, including director Ridley Scott, actor Alan Rickman, and Gerald Holtom, who designed the ‘peace’ symbol.

A live stream of the convocation will be available on the RCA’s website, and will be uploaded in full following the ceremony. The live stream is available here.
