Last November during Tyler the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, Mac Miller's estate announced the release of Balloonerism, the second posthumous album by the rapper since his tragic passing in 2018. Now, we finally have the lead single from this highly-anticipated project: "5 Dollar Pony Rides". Listen below:
The track, which features production from both Thundercat and Mac Miller himself (AKA Larry Fisherman), is a groovy love song urging a girl to come out of her rut:
"She don't know she slept through the future/ Missed it, it was yesterday/ So we right back where we started/ She still tryna get away"
Balloonerism is the first full-length album by Mac Miller since 2020's Circles. The late rapper first recorded this project over a decade ago and, although much of that music has since been leaked online, fans will now be finally able to listen to its official version. In a statement released to the press, Mac's family said about Balloonerism:
"We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world."
Ballonerism is set for a January 17 release. You can watch the full trailer for the album below.
