Drake seems intent on starting 2025 on the right note.
In a new video uploaded and now deleted by producer Conductor Williams, Drake spits a brand new freestyle about loss and loyalty while sipping contemplatively from a wine glass.
It isn't clear at the moment why Conductor either posted or deleted the freestyle. Either way, it has already been immortalized on social media and fans are speculating over who the lyrics might address. Many think it's aimed at LeBron James, a noted friend of Drake who was seen at Kendrick Lamar's well-documented "Pop Out" event during the two artists' heated rap beef.
"The world fell in love with the gimmicks/ even my brothers got tickets/ seems like they loved every minute/ just know this shit is personal to us and it wasn't just business"
This new freestyle comes after a tumultuous year for Drake. Following what many see as a decisive loss against Kendrick, Drake issued a legal dispute against UMG claiming that the label inflated the streaming numbers of "Not Like Us" (Lamar's incisive and infectious diss track) and helped to spread false accusations of him being a sex offender. Now, Drake seems to be focused on his partnership with Stake.com (an online crypto casino), and up until the release of this video, many have speculated that he is taking a step back from rapping.
Time will tell if this freestyle is the beginning of a new era for Drake's music career. Regardless, it is a welcomed addition to Drake and Conductor Williams' shared catalog. The two most notably collaborated on 2023's "8am in Charlotte", a single from the rapper's recent full-length project, For All the Dogs. You can check out that song below.
