My Brightest Diamond shares Sinéad O'Connor-inspired new single, "Fight the Real Terror"

Ahead of her sixth My Brightest Diamond studio album arriving on Friday (13 September), Shara Nova has shared a new video for the Sinéad O'Connor-inspired title track "Fight the Real Terror".

Written on the same day the world learned of the Irish singer/songwriter's tragic death, the song refers back to O'Connor's historic appearance on SNL in which she tore up a picture of the Pope declaring "Fight the real enemy" – an act that saw her vilified when she should have been saluted for bringing attention to the widespread abuse of children within the Catholic Church.

As much of a call to action as it is a tribute, "Fight the Real Terror" was the first song written for Nova's new album, which came together in a little over two weeks and is largely based on her home-recorded demos. Closing track "I Saw a Glimpse" was also inspired by O'Connor, specifically her frequent use of a cappella singing.

"Fight the Real Terror" is the third track to be previewed ahead of the album release, following "Safe House" and "Have You Ever Seen an Angel". Watch the video below:

Having recently played a hometown show in Detroit, MI, Nova takes Fight the Real Terror on tour across the US from Thursday this week. Full list of dates below:
