Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter and YouTuber mxmtoon is back with a new single, "the situation", and confirmation that her third album, liminal space, will be released on 1 November via AWAL.

Following the "post-break-up escape fantasy" country-pop single "i hate texas", released in July, "the situation" finds mxmtoon collaborating with British indie-pop trio Kero Kero Bonito. Speaking to ABC News last night, she said:

"I am so over the moon that I got to work with KKB. Sarah Bonito is one of my favourite artists that I started listening to at the time when I started making music in the first place. It's all about girlhood and growing up, and how society can sometimes feel like your value diminishes as you get older, when that is not true at all."

In the interview, mxmtoon also revealed that liminal space was created with an all-women team, which she felt was "important and pivotal" to being able express herself fully. In a press release accompanying the album announcement, she adds:

"In the turmoil of the last 2 years since my second record, I’ve felt suspended in a transitory landscape that often at times felt endless. It’s easy to feel trapped in something you barely understand, and life has thrown an onslaught of questions towards me that I can only respond with, ‘I have no idea how to answer this.’ So, suspended in the unknown I wrote these songs. I tried to unravel how I’ve chosen to fulfill the roles I’ve been given in my own life, and at times how I’ve failed to keep up with them."

mxmtoon's next live date will be at NYC's SummerStage event in Central Park on 9 September, followed by Mexico City's Festival Corona Capital on 15 November. Tour dates for early 2025 to follow.
