Post-rock legends Mogwai are following up last month's single and tour announcement with the good news that they officially have a new record on the way. The Bad Fire, the Scottish band's 11th album, is out January 24 via Temporary Residence Ltd. in the US, and Rock Auction elsewhere.
With this news comes the album's first official single, "Lion Rumpus", alongside a video directed by Antony Crook (who directed the documentary film about the band, Mogwai: If the Stars Had a Sound). Watch/listen below:
The Bad Fire was produced with John Congleton, and is being released in various physical formats, including several color variants and a special, limited-edition 3xLP box set. The album's title is appaently a Scottish colloquialism for Hell, and takes much of its inspiration from "tough moments" experienced by the band in recent years.
Speaking of the album, Mogwai said:
"After the high of putting out As The Love Continues, the following years were personally hard for us. We’ve dealt with a lot of loss and in Barry’s case a serious family illness with one his daughters. Getting back together to write and record this record felt like a refuge and with John Congleton we feel that we’ve made something special. We often hear from people that our music has helped them get through hard times in their lives and for once I think it applies to us as well."
