MJ Lenderman, Steve Shelley, and more perform at night 5 of Yo La Tengo’s Hannukah 2024 event

On the fifth night of their sold-out charity event at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, Yo La Tengo celebrated Hannukah 2024 by inviting friends both old and new onto the stage. The annual show featured a brand new set list by the host band, along with guest appearances by MJ Lenderman, Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley, Joey Spampinato of NRBQ and his wife, Kami Lyle. Comedian Jay Jurden also performed stand-up between musical performances, and a mix CD for the evening was provided by Kendraplex of long-time YLT collaborator station WFMU radio.

Lenderman kicked off Night 5 with his own performance, and later appeared alongside Yo La Tengo for a cover of Bob Dylan's "Something There Is About You" (off of his 1974 album Planet Waves). YLT continued with a previously unperformed set list, starting off with "You Are Here" and wrapping up with "Mushroom Cloud of Hiss" (full set list below).

Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley provided drums for each and every song throughout the evening. The night was capped off with an encore performance by YLT alongside Spampinato and Lyle, playing their own work, as well as a cover of "I Could Write a Book" from the 1940 musical Pal Joey.

In conjunction with the event, Yo La Tengo has teamed up with artist Steve Keene to raise money for the Brigid Alliance, an organization assisting people in the United States who must travel long distances to access abortion care. Donations can be made through the Brigid Alliance’s official webpage, and receipts can be forwarded to the band’s email (raffle@yolatengo.com). Each $20 donation receipt will be placed in a raffle to win a 2’x2’ painting featuring Keene’s artwork, inspired by the band’s album I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. Runner-up winners will receive a copy of The Steve Keene Art Book (via Tractor Beam/Hat & Beard Press), featuring his collaborative artwork with Pavement, David Berman, and more. Entries will be accepted until Thursday, January 2nd at 1:00 AM.
