Last November, Miley Cyrus gave fans a hint as to what they could expect from her upcoming self-directed visual album, Something Beautiful.
"My idea was making The Wall, but with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture," she said to Harper's Bazaar, referring to Pink Floyd's iconic music film.
Now, the Grammy-winning "Flowers" singer has released the first trailer for the album, which she is calling "a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy".
The video offers a taste of this "one of a kind pop opera". There are stunning stage designs, strong fashion statements and, of course, music. Something Beautiful will feature 13 new songs from the pop icon. If what we hear in this trailer is indicative of the full project, Cyrus seems to be leaning into the sounds of 80's hair metal and pop, a mode she has certainly succeeded in in the past.
“If I break away any bodies between us, would you promise that I’m enough if I give you all of my love?” she whispers at the very end of the trailer.
Miley officially announced the album this past Monday (March 24) in an Instagram post, which included the official artwork. In the image, the singer is sporting an archival 1997 Thierry Mugler headpiece, which, according the caption, is "a striking nod to the album’s bold aesthetic and visual storytelling."
The album will be released on May 30. The visuals will be shared with the world sometime in June.
