Metallica's Lars Ulrich confirms band's interest in Sphere residency & 2026 Super Bowl halftime show

Metallica drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich recently appeared on Howard Stern's radio show to talk about various subjects, including the upcoming launch of the band's SiriusXM channel, Maximum Metallica.

Of note was Ulrich voicing interest in playing two big-name stages: the Las Vegas Sphere and the Super Bowl field.

"We're all such fans of this venue," said Ulrich, referring to the former. "Nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. It's something that we're looking at [...] when the 2026 tour is done.

"I would fucking love to do it," the drummer concluded.

As for the Super Bowl, Ulrich voiced his enthusiasm in a similarly vulgar fashion: "Fuck yeah, of course we would." As the band hail from the Bay Area, and next year's game is set to go down in San Francisco, Ulrich added that it "would be the right fit."

Ulrich attended the opening night of U2's residency at the Sphere, and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has also expressed a desire to play at the circular venue.
