Richmond-born and Chicago-based rapper McKinley Dixon has announced his fifth album. Magic, Alive! will be released on June 6 via City Slang and you can listen to its first single, “Sugar Water,” now. The track features Detroit rapper Quelle Chris and North Carolina musician Anjimile, now.
Produced by Sam Yamaha and Koff, Magic, Alive! follows the story of a quartet of friends which then becomes a trio after one passes away, according to a press statement. “The essential twist, though,” the statement continued, “is that the trio wonder what they can do to bring their pal back or, at the very least, reconvene with him.” Besides Quelle Chris and Anjimile’s inclusion on “Sugar Water,” the album boasts several features, including Shamir, Pink Siifu, Ghais Guevara, Alfred., Blu, ICECOLDBISHOP, and Teller Bank$.
Speaking to the album’s lead single, Dixon said, “‘Sugar Water’ is a discussion on how to make fleeting moments last forever...It raises the question ‘what’s the price to pay for an eternal life lived through others’ memories?’”
Along with the album’s announcement, Dixon will head out on tour across Europe, with shows across the England, Scotland, Germany, France, and more. Check out the rapper’s spring tour dates and Magic, Alive!’s tracklist below.
