Matt Pinfield: "Guys, I'm alive" after massive stroke and two month coma

Everybody's favorite late night MTV VJ, Matt Pinfield, has come through the other side of a massive stroke and subsequent coma, and is now on the road to recovery. According to a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Pinfield has been in a recovery facility since late February after his release from the ICU.

Pinfield has kept a low profile since then, but is now letting everybody know he's made it. "Guys, I'm alive," the former 120 Minutes host said, "I'm recovering and am going to come back swinging. I was unresponsive for two months. Friends were thinking they were coming to see me for the last time. The doctors never expected me to speak or to walk again."

"I want to say how great grateful I am for all the people that that were wishing me well. The love of the community helped me get through this."

His eldest daughter Jessica took on conservatorship while Pinfield was in a coma, making medical and financial decisions following a massive stroke he suffered in January. "She's the one who saved my life. She protected me," he said.

While Pinfield also went through even more issues after the stroke, like contracting pneumonia and being placed on a ventilator, as soon as he came out of it, he was his old self again.

"My friends said I went on about [Procol Harum's] 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' and how they couldn't keep up with what I was saying. They were, like, 'Yeah, he's still got that brain.'"

Pinfield says he will be discharged from the rehab facility by the end of March, and he'll continue his recovery with outpatient care. After that?

"I'm definitely going to take some time to recover," he says. "Then I'll do my radio shows again and get back to work doing what I love, which is to entertain people playing music."
