Mastodon founding guitarist Brent Hinds leaves band after 25 years

Atlanta metal legends Mastodon have announced that they are mutually parting ways with founding lead guitarist Brent Hinds. This marks the band's first lineup change since vocalist Eric Saner left the band before Mastodon's debut, 2002's Remission, stampeded onto the scene.

In a social media post on March 7th, which you can view below, the band underscored their respect for Hinds.

"We're deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we've shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road."

While Hinds has had less creative input in Mastodon's newer releases, his incredibly unique, banjo-influenced playing style and high-octane twang sets him apart – many fans view him as the key ingredient to the prog-metal leviathans.
