Massive Attack announces '100% battery powered event' at London's LIDO Festival

In their series of performances using alternative methods to combat global carbon emissions, the Bristol-based Trip Hop group, Massive Attack, has announced another phase to their climate-conscious touring schedule. On February 18th, the group took to social media to promote a single-day event at East London's LIDO Festival curated by the group themselves and keeping to their word by setting up a '100% battery-powered' system for all the day's performers.

As the headliners for the inaugural festival, and marking their first London performance in over nine years, the groups' masterminds, Robert "3D" Del Naja and Grant "Daddy G" Marshal, are dedicating themselves to concert decarbonization as previously utilized in their Act 1.5 event last August. The concert involved 23 decarbonization measures, including using 100% renewable energy to power the stage and sound systems and implementing zero landfill and waste policies.

As the next stepping point in the group's eco-conscious mission statement, the recently announced Friday, June 6th event at East London's Victoria Park will contain special appearances from artists like Tizarah, Yasiin Bey and The Alchemist under the duo Forensics, AIR, and Massive Attack themselves, with more artists to be announced in the coming months.

When asked in a press interview about the event, Del Naja said:

"History shows it's often the combination of art and science that overcomes the greatest challenges we face, so it's good to see LIDO take learnings from our ACT 1.5 event last year and apply those technologies to where they see emissions coming from. Clean productions beginning this journey to normalisation is good news for everyone, but especially for music fans that come to festivals and the local communities that live around them."

Presale for Massive Attack at the LIDO Festival will take place on Thursday, February 20th at 10 am local time, with the general sale following the next day.
