After another year of holiday streaming dominance, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has now chalked up 20 non-consecutive weeks at #1, and in the process, snatched the record for the longest-running chart-topper in Hot 100 history. This puts it ahead of Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” both of which previously held a share of the crown at 19 weeks.
Since the single started its annual reappearance at the top spot back in 2019, a full 25 years after it came out, it’s seemed pretty inevitable we’d end up here. Blame it all on the iron grip streaming has on music charts come December.
Carey marked the occasion with a post on social media, posing in full Santa mode and holding a torch, adding, “Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1… I’m so grateful.”
